When I first glanced at this storm shot, I thought, "Wow, what a great kickoff to the monsoon season!" Especially with a complete post-storm rainbow to boot!

After taking a good look at the cloud-filled scene, I realized that what I was seeing in the distance is the Sandia Mountains with Albuquerque to the southeast. Ah, they look so familiar to me! The sight of the Sandia Mountains is similar to that shown in [link] , especially the fourth photo from the top. What a really nice view from the backyard of this photographer!

The dark, monsoon-like storm clouds being the focus of the shot makes for a very interesting, enlightening summer shot with the colorful rainbow arching across the entire scene. The colors as shown in the sky could not have been more appropriate to illustrate what a monsoon storm really is like! The massive dusty storm occurs when towering cumulus clouds (built up over the mountains during the day time) are being pushed into the valley by strong winds. Sometimes the storm would produce a great deal of rain, other times very little or no rain at all.

The storm shot looks very good. I would bring the camera down just a little bit to show more of the landscape while centering the rainbow between the top and bottom parts of the photo. I would also tilt the camera very slightly to the left so that the landscape would level out. I would try to add a bit more clarity to the storm clouds so that the parts that show the reflection of the sun would be a bit sharper. Other than the above suggestions, this shot is definitely an eye-catching one of a desert storm! :)

Excellent capture of the evening storm! The timing could not have been more perfect with the appearance of the arching rainbow right across the desert scene! :+fav:! :)

Regardless of the camera (single-use or digital) you happen to have in your hand, what matters is that you are able to capture the moment! Otherwise, you'd miss out on this very experience that can serve as a great photo 'reinforcement' to your memories!
